HIV-1 low-level viraemia assessed with 3 commercial real-time PCR assays show high variability
BACKGROUND Current real-time PCR-based HIV-1 viral load (VL) assays allow the detection of residual viraemia in antiretroviral-treated patients. The clinical outcome of HIV1 patients experiencing low-level replication (<50 cop/mL) in comparison with fully suppressed patients is currently debated. We analysed variability of 3 VL assays <50 cop/mL, and evaluated the reproducibility of viral blips...
متن کاملHIV-1 load comparison using four commercial real-time assays.
The HIV-1 RNA viral load is commonly used for the monitoring of disease progression and antiretroviral treatment of HIV-1-infected patients. Since the misestimating of values could lead to inappropriate therapeutical management, the comparative performances, especially the ability to span the genetic diversity of HIV-1, of available automated real-time assays need to be evaluated. We conducted ...
متن کاملReal-time multiplex PCR assays.
The ability to multiplex PCR by probe color and melting temperature (T(m)) greatly expands the power of real-time analysis. Simple hybridization probes with only a single fluorescent dye can be used for quantification and allele typing. Different probes are labeled with dyes that have unique emission spectra. Spectral data are collected with discrete optics or dispersed onto an array for detect...
متن کاملComparison of commercial real-time PCR assays for quantification of Epstein-Barr virus DNA.
Clinical research suggests a role for viral load measurement in predicting and monitoring Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated diseases. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of the recently commercially available quantitative assays for EBV based on real-time PCR: the RealArt EBV LC PCR kit and the LightCycler EBV quantification kit. A total of 87 samples were analyzed: 67 samples...
متن کاملEvaluation of two commercial real-time PCR assays for detection of Mycoplasma genitalium in urogenital specimens.
The performance of two commercial real-time PCR kits for the detection of Mycoplasma genitalium was evaluated in comparison to an in-house real-time PCR assay. Concordances of 96% and 93% were found for the TIB MOLBIOL and the Diagenode assays, respectively, compared to the results of the in-house assay.
